Ophthalmic image capture options

There are many different ways that your Ophthalmic images can be uploaded to a patient’s file in TouchMD using the TouchMD (TMD) Capture tool. The following are four examples of how TouchMD ophthalmology clients are utilizing TMD Capture:

Option 1 – Install TMD Capture directly on the desired Ophthalmic device.

This is the easiest way of uploading pictures directly to a patient’s file in TouchMD.  At the time of the exam, the technician can upload the desired image to a TouchMD patient file by pressing the SHIFT+PRTSC (print screen), or use “save” option on the ophthalmic device. See ophthalmic device/computer requirements below.

Option 2 – Install TMD Capture on a Nurse/Technician Computer for upload from an EHR, Data/Image Management System, or network file location.

This option is often used when an ophthalmic device does not meet the TMD Capture requirements, or if the office does not want to upload images directly from their ophthalmic devices. The nurse/technician can upload the desired image to a TouchMD patient file by dragging and dropping the image into TMD Capture from their network file location, or by exporting the image from the EHR or Data/Image Management System to the TMD Capture tool.  See ophthalmic device/computer requirements below.

Option 3 – Install TMD Capture on the exam room computers for upload from EHR or Data/Image Management System.

This option is often used when an ophthalmic device does not meet the TMD Capture requirements, or if the office does not want to upload images directly from their ophthalmic devices. The nurse/technician/doctor can upload the desired image to a TouchMD patient file by exporting the image from the EHR or Data/Image Management System to the TMD Capture tool, or by pressing the SHIFT+PRTSC (print screen).  This allows for the doctor to request an ophthalmic device image be uploaded to TouchMD by the scribe/technician for the consultation while in the exam room with the patient.  See ophthalmic device/computer requirements below.

Example 4 – A combination of one or more of the above options.

This option allows for the most flexibility in image upload workflows.  Images can be uploaded to TouchMD using the TMD Capture tool from the ophthalmic device, technician computers, and/or exam room computers.

Please Note

TouchMD does not replace your Ophthalmic Data/Image Management System (such as Synergy, Forum, Oculab, Merge, etc.).  Instead, TouchMD gives you an option to save specific images that can be used to help educate the patient about their exam results and procedure during the consultation process, and allow them to review or share this information with loved ones at home.  Additionally, TouchMD Capture is limited on which ophthalmic devices it can be installed on (see TMD Capture requirements below), and what EHR’s it can send images to.

Ophthalmic Device / Computer Requirements for TouchMD Capture:

  • Windows Vista, Windows 7 or 7 pro, Windows 8.1 or 8.1 pro
  • Microsoft .NET version 4.5 or Higher
  • High Speed internet access – Recommend at least 1.5 mbps upload speeds or higher.  Contact your Internet Service Provider for more information about your service, or test your upload speed using the tool located at: www.speedtest.net
