How do I make consents available to sign?

Once you have added and saved a consent, you will need to review and publish your consent to allow patients complete consents. This is an important step ensure patients may review and complete consents.

Actions:

What are Actions?

Actions are options that allow you to make a consent interactive in TouchMD, such as; initialing portions of the consent, typing text into free-fill textboxes, and/or signing the consent. Without actions, a consent would be read only.  Below you will find information on every action/option available to manage a consent in TouchMD. For a more in-depth for each action/option, see the information below or select an action/option from Article Contents listed on the right-hand side.

Line Formatting:

Line formatting allows you to alter the font size.

Paragraph:

Paragraph is a normal type font. This is best used for the majority of the body of your consent. Paragraph is the default to the typed and copied and pasted text.

Heading:

Heading is a large type font. This is best used for a title.

Subheading:

Subheading is a large type font that is larger than Paragraph but is smaller than Heading. This is best used for subheadings and/or any text you would like to draw attention to as patients review the consent.

Fine Print:

Fine Print is a very small type font. This is best used for any fine print details desired to be added to a consent.

Patient actions:

Patient Actions are actions meant to be completed by the user while reviewing a consent. These are typically actions completed by the patient, however, some actions may be used by a staff member or provider.

Check a Box:

A Check a Box Action allows for a patient to review a list of items and select all, some, or none of the items listed. For example, this action may be used to have a patient select from a list of services they are interested in, a list of allergies, a list of medications, how the patient heard of your practice, and or any other instance deemed fit by your practice

Initial:

An Initial Action allows for a patient to initial a portion of the consent. This may be whole paragraphs or sentences. As consent in TouchMD do not have pages, it is recommended that you have patients initial specific paragraphs or sentences of great importance to their understanding of the consent or any other portion of the consent you wish to have the patient initial.

Sign:

A Sign Action allows for a patient/staff member/provider/physician to add a signature to the consent.    Note that the system provides a line for the user to place their signature.

Sign with Photo:

A Sign with Photo Action allows for a patient/staff member/provider/physician to add a signature to the consent along with taking a photo with the built-in camera for additional verification. Note that the system provides a line for the user to place their signature and area for the photo to be placed.

Select One & Select One (Optional):

A Select One Action allows for a patient to review a list of items and select a single answer. For example, a yes-or-no type of question or any other instance deemed fit by your practice. Please note, two options are available for Select One: Select One and  Select One (Optional). Use Select One if you require an answer. Use Select One (Optional) if you do not require an answer.

Text Box & Text Box (Optional):

A Text Box is a free-fill text box that allows for a patient/staff member/provider/physician to type text into a provided box. For example, you may request a list of allergies, an emergency contact, or any other instance deemed fit by your practice. Please note, two options are available for Text Box: Text Box and  Text Box (Optional). Use Text Box if you require an answer. Use Text Box (Optional) if you do not require an answer.

Staff Actions:

Staff Actions are actions done by a staff member or provider during the consent assignment process prior to the consent being reviewed and signed by a patient.

Select (On-Assign):

Select (On-Assign) allows for a staff member or provider to review a list of items and select a single answer. For example, a yes-or-no type of question or any other instance deemed fit by your practice.

Text (On Assign):

A Text (On Assign) is a free-fill text box that allows for a staff member/provider/physician to type text into a provided box upon assignment of the consent. For example, a text box requesting the area of treatment to be typed, or any other instance deemed fit by your practice.

Provider (On Assign):

Provider (On Assign) allows for a staff member or provider to review a list of providers and select a single provider. This may be used to indicate the provider performing the service. The list of providers is managed in the Providers List

Reviewer Signature:

A Reviewer Signature allows for a staff member, provider, medical director to add their signature to a consent at a later time. This may be used by a medical director, provider, or staff member that needs to review the consent and add their signature at a separate time from the time that a patient signs the consent form. The staff member/provider will use the TouchMD Consult or TouchMD Dashboard app to review and sign the consent.

Lists:

Suggestions of how to add lists to a consent are listed under the Advanced. Here you will find instructions on how to add a numbered list, a Roman numeral list, and how to add a bulleted list.

  • To create a numbered list, select the desired consent from your consent library under the Legal tab, place your cursor at the beginning of the sentence and/or paragraph you would like to have grouped as a numbered list, and type the corresponding number. This is what it will look like when a portion of your consent is listed as a numbered list in an assigned consent.

  • To create a Roman numeral list, select the desired consent from your consent library under the Legal tab, place your cursor at the beginning of the sentence and/or paragraph you would like to have grouped as a Roman numeral list, and type the corresponding Roman numeral. This is what it will look like when a portion of your consent is listed as a Roman numeral list in an assigned consent.

  • To create a bulleted list, select the desired consent from your consent library under the Legal tab, place your cursor at the beginning of the sentence and/or paragraph you would like to have grouped as a bulleted list, and type a hyphen or dash on your keyboard. This is what it will look like when a portion of your consent is listed as a bulleted list in an assigned consent.
